BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé G26 (since 2021)
Built in Munich on the same line as the electric i4 and on sale since November 2021, the G26 Gran Coupé is a 4,783 mm five-door hatchback with 470 to 1,290 litres of boot space. Its engines are those of the Coupé, without the six-cylinder M440d. An update arrived in July 2024. To identify yours, compare the kW on the registration document with those on this page. Figures come from BMW press documents and specification sheets and the ADAC catalogue; anything we could not verify is left out.

Identifying your car
G26 is the combustion-engined Gran Coupé. The BMW i4, the same body as a fully electric car, belongs to the BMW i range and is not covered here. The July 2024 update brings BMW Operating System 8.5 with QuickSelect, the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission as standard on every combustion engine and Euro 6e across the range. ADAC separates cars from 06/2023 (move to Euro 6e) and from 07/2024.
Engine line-up and engine codes
Petrol, 1,998 cc four-cylinder (B48): 420i with 135 kW (184 hp, B48B20A according to ADAC); 430i with 180 kW (245 hp, B48B20B), rear-wheel drive at launch and xDrive from spring 2022, with only the 430i xDrive left in the 2024 line-up. Petrol, 2,998 cc six-cylinder (B58) with 48-volt mild hybrid: M440i xDrive with 275 kW (374 hp, B58B30B), also with rear-wheel drive from summer 2022; 288 kW (392 hp) from autumn 2025. Diesel with 48-volt mild hybrid: 420d with 140 kW (190 hp), rear-wheel drive or xDrive; 430d xDrive with 210 kW (286 hp) from summer 2022. ADAC codes these engines B47D20B and B57D30B in the Coupé. All have an eight-speed Steptronic automatic and, according to ADAC, a timing chain.
Maintenance: what BMW documents
Oil-change quantities from BMW specification sheets: 5.5 l (420d), 7.0 l (430d xDrive), 7.2 l (M440i), 5.25 l (420i). For the 430i the sheets disagree: 5.25 l (06/2021 and 07/2024) against 5.75 l (430i xDrive, 03/2022); have the quantity confirmed for your VIN. We found no handbook specific to the Gran Coupé: approved oils are given in the engine block of each version. Due dates are calculated by Condition Based Service; BMW’s regular maintenance covers oil, brake fluid, a vehicle check, air filter and microfilter, plus spark plugs (petrol) or fuel filter (diesel).
Recalls to check
The three BMW starter recalls ADAC lists for the G22/G23/G26 4 Series also concern the Gran Coupé: October 2025 (built 09/2015–09/2021), February 2026 (05/2020–10/2024) and July 2026 (07/2020–02/2026), all for fire risk, starter replaced. For the 420i and 430i, ADAC also lists a May 2022 recall for cars built 01/2022–03/2022: a faulty gas generator in the front seat-belt pretensioners; the belts are checked and replaced if necessary. Have your VIN checked.
