BMW 430d xDrive Gran Coupé G26 · 286 hp (since 2022)

The 430d xDrive brought the six-cylinder diesel to the Gran Coupé in summer 2022: 210 kW (286 hp), 650 Nm and xDrive. To check this is your version, compare with the 210 kW on the registration document. An oil change takes 7 l.

What distinguishes this version

2,993 cc six-cylinder diesel with 48-volt mild hybrid: 210 kW (286 hp) at 4,000 rpm, 650 Nm between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. Eight-speed Steptronic and xDrive. 0–100 km/h in 5.3 s, 250 km/h (05/2022 and 07/2024 sheets). WLTP combined at launch: 6.0–5.5 l/100 km. ADAC codes this engine B57D30B in the Coupé.

Engine oil: quantity

Oil change: 7 l according to BMW’s specification sheets (05/2022, 07/2024). Approvals and viscosity grades: see the “B57 engine” block on this page.

What the service display tracks

Due dates are calculated by Condition Based Service from how the car is used. BMW’s regular maintenance covers engine oil, brake fluid, a vehicle check, air filter, cabin microfilter and fuel filter, each triggered by the calculated service requirement. BMW’s list sets no mileage or period: the reference is the date your car displays.

Prepare the next service

Check the power on the registration document (210 kW) and note the items and dates the car displays. Ask for 7 l of a BMW-approved oil. Have the VIN checked against the recalls listed by ADAC and keep a record of every job.

BMW B57 diesel engine (3.0 l, six-cylinder)

This applies to every car fitted with the B57 engine.

What the B57 is

Inline six-cylinder diesel engine of 2,993 cc with common-rail direct injection, from the same modular family as the B47 and B58. The number of turbochargers depends on the version. ADAC gives three codes: B57D30A for the 2017 G30 530d (195 kW/265 PS, 620 Nm, Euro 6c), B57D30C for the 2016 G11 750d xDrive (four turbochargers, 294 kW/400 PS, 760 Nm) and B57D30B for the 2020 facelifted 530d (48 V mild hybrid, twin turbo, 210 kW/286 PS, 650 Nm, Euro 6d-ISC-FCM). All have SCR, a NOx storage catalyst and a particulate filter.

Engine oil

BMW handbooks only list oils for topping up and leave the oil change to a qualified workshop; the list depends on the handbook edition. 5 Series G30 handbook (VI/20): BMW Longlife-04 or -12 FE — the handbook adds that Longlife-12 FE is not suitable for the 25d, 35d, 40d and 50d diesels — in SAE 0W-30, 5W-30, 0W-40 or 5W-40 (0W-20 and 5W-20 are excluded for diesels); otherwise up to 1 litre of ACEA C2 or C3. No additives. The Longlife-12 FE restriction names the “50d” designation, that of the four-turbo 750d (B57D30C); for a 30d the handbook allows it. No B57-specific oil-change quantity was found in the BMW sources consulted: ask the workshop for the figure for your VIN.

Timing drive

Chain, according to ADAC. BMW’s training documents on the modular family explain that, because the crankcase is shared by petrol and diesel engines, the timing drive is two-part: a lower chain drives an intermediate shaft, which on the diesels also drives the high-pressure pump, and an upper chain drives the camshafts. The sources consulted give no replacement interval.

Recall campaign

In October 2018 BMW expanded a technical campaign on the EGR module of certain diesels: glycol leaking from the EGR cooler, combined with soot deposits, can create smouldering particles and, very rarely, melt the intake manifold or cause a fire. About 1.6 million vehicles worldwide, built August 2010 to August 2017, with periods varying by model; the module is checked and faulty parts replaced. BMW does not list engine codes, so have the VIN checked.

What changed over the years

2016: four-turbo 750d xDrive, presented by BMW as the world’s most powerful six-cylinder diesel — injection above 2,500 bar, peak combustion pressure raised from 200 to 210 bar, head and crankcase castings densified by hot isostatic pressing, twin-wire arc-sprayed cylinder bores. 2017: G30 530d (B57D30A, Euro 6c). 2020: facelifted 530d as a 48 V mild hybrid (B57D30B), 210 kW and 650 Nm, Euro 6d-ISC-FCM.

Maintenance and records

Other maintenance items — diesel

As the service requirement dictates

BMW lists as regular maintenance: brake fluid, a vehicle check to BMW specifications, air filter, cabin microfilter and fuel filter. Each item is triggered by the service requirement the car calculates.

Questions about this version (5)

Is there an M440d Gran Coupé?

No. The six-cylinder diesel of the Gran Coupé is the 430d xDrive: BMW’s Gran Coupé sheets and press kits list no M440d.

Source : [4] [8] [7] [5]

Is the 430d Gran Coupé available with rear-wheel drive?

No: BMW only lists it as the 430d xDrive, at its July 2022 launch and in the 2024 line-up.

Source : [2] [8]

Which fuel?

EN 590 diesel with up to 7% biodiesel (B7); B10 as the minimum; paraffinic diesel to EN 15940 (XTL) is allowed. Never pure methyl ester or petrol. BMW recommends using only diesel additives rated as suitable. (These rules come from the Coupé handbook, which shares the same engines.)

Source : [9] [10]

Which recalls can apply to this version?

ADAC lists three BMW starter recalls covering this generation of the 4 Series: October 2025 (built 09/2015–09/2021), February 2026 (05/2020–10/2024) and July 2026 (07/2020–02/2026). A relay poorly protected against water, or wear deposits in it, can cause a short circuit and a fire; the starter is replaced. Not every car is affected: have your VIN checked.

Source : [11]

How should a new car of this version be run in?

Up to 2,000 km, do not exceed 3,500 rpm or 150 km/h, avoid full load and kick-down and do not use Launch Control; then increase gradually. New tyres need a gentle approach for the first 300 km, the brakes for about 500 km. The same rules apply after these parts are replaced.
