Engine oil — petrol
CBS: starting value 25,000 km / 24 months
A starting value, not a fixed interval: CBS adjusts it according to the fuel used. Due 24 months after the last change at the latest.

At the March 2007 facelift the 116i kept a 115 PS 1.6 with port injection. It was replaced for model year 2008, so check the 85 kW on your registration document before ordering anything.

From BMW’s March 2007 table: 1,596 cc, manifold injection and double VANOS, 85 kW at 6,000 rpm and 150 Nm at 4,300 rpm, five-speed manual gearbox. For model year 2008 BMW replaced it with a 90 kW 1.6 with direct injection.
BMW’s March 2007 specification table lists 4.25 l of engine oil. Longlife-04 oils are approved for petrol engines only in the EU, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein; outside that area, use the approval BMW specifies for the country.
Oil: calculated from fuel used, starting value 25,000 km, 24 months at most. Front and rear pads: two separate countdowns. Brake fluid: 24 months. Vehicle check: 50,000 km or 48 months. The microfilter is replaced at every oil service, spark plugs and air filter at every third; they no longer have their own display.
Note the power on the registration document (85 kW) and the build month: this 116i was built for only a few months and is easily confused with the pre-2007 116i or the 90 kW one. Count oil services since the last spark plugs: they are due at every third.

Two separate countdowns fed by the wear sensors. With new pads, replace the wear sensor as well before resetting the display.
Source [2]At every engine oil service
Since March 2007 the microfilter has no CBS countdown of its own: it is replaced at each oil service on cars with air conditioning.
Source [10]Every 3rd engine oil service
Since March 2007 the plugs follow the oil services and no longer have a CBS countdown: the 60,000 and 100,000 km figures of the earlier cars no longer apply. Keep count of oil services.

24 months
Counted from the vehicle’s on-board date, even at low mileage. That date stops when the battery is disconnected: correct it afterwards.

50 000 km
48 months
A CBS item separate from the oil service, managed by the instrument cluster.
Source [4]Go by the power: 85 kW. The later LCI 116i models have 90 kW, first from a 1.6 direct-injection engine (model year 2008), then from a 2.0 (spring 2009).
Five. BMW’s table lists only five forward ratios for the 116i, against six for every other engine in the range.

No, not on a car built from March 2007: they are changed at every third oil service. The 60,000 km rule for the 1.6 belongs to the earlier phase.
The BMW sources used describe the engine (1,596 cc, port injection, double VANOS) without naming the code. The TIS index lists N45 and N45T for the E87 116i: read the code on the engine or the paperwork.
BMW’s table gives RON 91 to 98 for this engine. The published performance and consumption figures refer to the German-market car.
