BMW 130i E87 · 265 PS (2007–2009)

The only six-cylinder in the range, the 130i carries over the 265 PS 3.0 litre with VALVETRONIC. Before any oil change, check the engine code and whether an auxiliary oil cooler is fitted: the quantity depends on it.

What distinguishes this version

2,996 cc straight-six with double VANOS and VALVETRONIC: 195 kW at 6,650 rpm and 315 Nm at 2,750 rpm. Six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. BMW quotes 6.1 s and 8.3 l/100 km for the five-door manual.

Engine oil: quantity and approval

Oil change with filter: 6.5 l according to TIS data for the N52 B30 and N52K B30; 7.0 l on an N52K with the auxiliary engine oil cooler. Longlife-04 oils are approved for petrol engines only in the EU, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein; outside that area, use the approval BMW specifies for the country.

What the CBS tracks

Oil: calculated from fuel used, starting value 25,000 km, 24 months at most. Front and rear pads: two separate countdowns. Brake fluid: 24 months. Vehicle check: 50,000 km or 48 months. The microfilter is replaced at every oil service, spark plugs and air filter at every third; they no longer have their own display.

Timing drive

Chain-driven. TIS has a chain replacement procedure, but no chain item appears in the CBS list: it is a repair, not scheduled maintenance.

Have the exact engine code read (N52 or N52K) and check for an auxiliary oil cooler. Order brake parts by axle: discs are vented front and rear.

A starting value, not a fixed interval: CBS adjusts it according to the fuel used. Due 24 months after the last change at the latest.

The TIS index lists both for the E87 130i. The sources used do not say which belongs to which period: read the code on the engine.

6.5 l with filter as a rule; TIS gives 7.0 l for an N52K with the auxiliary engine oil cooler.

Which brakes on the 130i?

Vented discs on both axles: 330 × 24 mm front, 300 × 20 mm rear, per BMW’s 2007 table.

Is the automatic slower?

Slightly: 6.3 s to 100 km/h instead of 6.1 s, with the same 8.3 l/100 km according to BMW.

What about the 258 PS 130i?

BMW Austria’s 09/2009 price list shows the five-door 130i at 190 kW/258 PS and 8.5 l/100 km; the 03/2009 list still has 195 kW/265 PS. Check the power on your registration document.
