Engine oil — petrol
CBS: starting value 25,000 km / 24 months
A starting value, not a fixed interval: CBS adjusts it according to the fuel used. Due 24 months after the last change at the latest.

The last E87 116i keeps 122 PS but moves to a 2.0 litre with direct injection. It has the same output as the 1.6 it replaced: only the displacement and the date tell them apart.
Figures apply to the cited configuration and market; equipment and transmissions may vary by production date.

From spring 2009 the 116i uses a 2.0 litre four-cylinder with direct injection (High Precision Injection): 90 kW/122 PS and 185 Nm, 25 Nm more than the 1.6 it replaced, and Euro 5. BMW quotes 9.9 s to 100 km/h for the five-door and 6.2 l/100 km. The TIS index links the 116i to the N43 engine.
Oil change with filter: 4.25 l according to TIS data for the N43 B20. Longlife-04 oils are approved for petrol engines only in the EU, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein; outside that area, use the approval BMW specifies for the country.
Oil: calculated from fuel used, starting value 25,000 km, 24 months at most. Front and rear pads: two separate countdowns. Brake fluid: 24 months. Vehicle check: 50,000 km or 48 months. The microfilter is replaced at every oil service, spark plugs and air filter at every third; they no longer have their own display. For the N43, BMW raised the starting value to 30,000 km (ECE markets) on cars built from 09/2008.
Chain-driven. TIS has a chain replacement procedure, but no chain item appears in the CBS list: it is a repair, not scheduled maintenance.
Check that the registration document says 2.0 litres and 90 kW: the 1.6 sold before spring 2009 has the same output. Ask whether the oil calculation starts from 25,000 or 30,000 km, and count oil services since the last spark plugs.

Two separate countdowns fed by the wear sensors. With new pads, replace the wear sensor as well before resetting the display.
Source [2]At every engine oil service
Since March 2007 the microfilter has no CBS countdown of its own: it is replaced at each oil service on cars with air conditioning.
Source [9]Every 3rd engine oil service
Since March 2007 the plugs follow the oil services and no longer have a CBS countdown: the 60,000 and 100,000 km figures of the earlier cars no longer apply. Keep count of oil services.

Source [9]Calendar-based
24 months
Counted from the vehicle’s on-board date, even at low mileage. That date stops when the battery is disconnected: correct it afterwards.

50 000 km
48 months
A CBS item separate from the oil service, managed by the instrument cluster.
Source [4]Torque, not power: in spring 2009 BMW raised the displacement to 2.0 litres, with 185 Nm (+25 Nm) and Euro 5.

Yes: the TIS index links the 116i to the N43, whose B20 data give 4.25 l with filter, as for the 118i and 120i.
Yes according to BMW Germany, which quotes Euro 5 for the 116i from spring 2009. Check the class on your registration certificate.

No: the list of CBS operations has none. TIS has a replacement procedure for the N43, but as a repair.
Yes: BMW Austria’s 09/2009 price list includes an automatic 116i, at 6.6 l/100 km against 6.1 l for the manual in that document.
