BMW 3 Series G20 / G21 LCI (since 2022)
Facelifted in July 2022, the G20/G21 3 Series gained the BMW Curved Display and the Steptronic gearbox as standard on every version. A second update, built from July 2024, gives the 330e a new battery. Two versions change output: the 330i drops to 180 kW, and the M340i rises to 288 kW in autumn 2025.

Identifying the phase and body style
Worldwide launch in July 2022: new front, BMW Curved Display, BMW Operating System 8, Steptronic with paddles as standard. Built in Munich, the saloon also in San Luis Potosí and Shenyang. Update built from July 2024: BMW Operating System 8.5, revised chassis, new battery for the 330e. ADAC separates these two stages and ends most versions in 09/2026. Petrol B48: 318i 115 kW, B48B20A · 320i 135 kW, B48B20B · 330i 180 kW, B48B20B. Six-cylinder B58: M340i xDrive 275 kW, B58B30B (2022–2025), then 288 kW, B58B30P (from 09/2025). Plug-in hybrids: 320e 150 kW system, B48B20A (2022–2024) · 330e 215 kW system, B48B20B. 48-volt mild-hybrid diesels: 318d 110 kW and 320d 140 kW, B47D20B · 330d 210 kW and M340d xDrive 250 kW, B57D30B. Documented maintenance
BMW oil-change quantities (2022 and 2024 sheets): 5.25 l for the B48 models and plug-in hybrids, 5.5 l for 318d and 320d, 7.0 l for 330d and M340d, 7.2 l for the 275 kW M340i. The LCI G20 handbook (VI/23) only allows top-ups with BMW Longlife-12 FE, -17 FE+ or -19 FE for petrol and Longlife-12 FE or -17 FE+ for diesel, in SAE 0W-20 or 0W-30, or up to 1 litre of ACEA C2 or C5. It asks for a detailed level measurement after every refuelling. Due dates are calculated by Condition Based Service.
Recalls to check
ADAC lists two BMW recalls for the LCI G20/G21, both for a fire risk at the starter: February 2026 (production 05/2020–10/2024) and July 2026 (07/2020–02/2026), wear deposits in the relay that can cause a short circuit; the starter is replaced. Not every car built in a period is affected: have the VIN checked.
