BMW 3 Series G20 / G21 (2019–2022)
The seventh 3 Series arrived as the G20 saloon in March 2019 and as the G21 Touring in September 2019. Every engine page covers both body styles. Identify yours by the kW on the registration certificate and the build date: the 330d changed engine in November 2020, and 48-volt mild hybrid technology arrived in stages during 2020.

Identifying the phase and body style
G20 is the saloon, on sale from 9 March 2019; G21 is the Touring, launched on 28 September 2019. BMW builds it in Munich, and the saloon also in Shenyang (China) and San Luis Potosí (Mexico). The facelift was launched in July 2022. The M3 (G80) and M3 Touring (G81) are separate BMW M models not covered here; the 4 Series (G22/G23/G26) is another model with its own page.

Documented maintenance
BMW oil-change quantities: 5.25 l for the four-cylinder petrol models and the 330e, 5.5 l for the 318d and 320d, 6.5 l for the M340i and the 195 kW 330d, 7.0 l for the M340d. The G20 handbook (2019–2022) allows top-ups with BMW Longlife-04, -12 FE or -17 FE+ for petrol, Longlife-04 or -12 FE for diesel (-12 FE not for 25d, 35d, 40d and 50d diesels), or up to 1 litre of ACEA C2 or C3; SAE 0W-30, 5W-30, 0W-40 or 5W-40, and 0W-20 or 5W-20 for petrol only. Due dates come from Condition Based Service; running-in up to 2,000 km without exceeding 4,500 rpm and 160 km/h (petrol) or 3,500 rpm and 150 km/h (diesel).
Recalls to check
ADAC lists for the 2019–2022 G20/G21: July 2026 (production 07/2020–02/2026) and February 2026 (05/2020–10/2024), wear deposits in the starter relay that can cause a short circuit and fire, starter replaced; October 2025 (09/2015–09/2021), starter relay insufficiently sealed against water, same remedy; May 2022 (01/2022–03/2022), faulty gas generator in the front belt pretensioners, belts checked and replaced if needed. For plug-in hybrids built 01/2020–09/2020: November 2020 recall, risk of a short circuit between two cells of the high-voltage battery, cells checked and replaced if needed. Not every car built in a period is affected: have the VIN checked.
