BMW 2 Series Active Tourer U06 (since 2022)

On sale since February 2022, the U06 comes only as a five-seat Active Tourer, always with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. To identify your version, compare the kW on your registration document with those on this page: on the 220i, 223i, 220d and 223d, BMW quotes a total output that includes the 48-volt electric motor, and on the 225e and 230e a system output. Figures come from BMW documents, the two owner’s handbooks (X/24 and plug-in hybrid VI/22) and the ADAC catalogue; anything we could not verify is left out.

What changed compared with the F45/F46

The car grows slightly: 4,386 mm long (+32 mm), 1,824 mm wide (+24 mm), 1,576 mm tall (+21 mm), on the same 2,670 mm wheelbase, with tracks 25 mm wider at the front and 26 mm at the rear. There is no Gran Tourer any more: the U06 is a five-seat Active Tourer, and neither BMW nor ADAC lists a seven-seat version. Every version gets the new seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch gearbox with all-electric actuation: the manual gearbox is gone. Technical newcomers: 48-volt mild hybrid with the electric motor integrated into the gearbox (220i, 223i, later the 223d and 220d) and plug-in hybrids with fifth-generation BMW eDrive and an electric motor on the rear axle. The U06 is built in Leipzig only. For maintenance, the handbooks now allow only SAE 0W-20 and 0W-30 oils, add the Longlife-19 FE approval for petrol engines, and the electronic Service History replaces the printed service booklet.

Recalls to check

ADAC lists four recalls for the U06: in November 2022, the driver’s outer door handle on cars built 07–09/2022; in April 2023, outer rear seat belts that may be trapped by the C-pillar trim (built 01/2021–06/2023); in April 2024, a signal fault in the motor position sensor of the integrated braking system that can cut brake assistance, ABS and DSC (built 01/2022–11/2024); in July 2026, deposits in the starter relay that can cause a short circuit and a fire risk (built 07/2020–02/2026).
